For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
Colossians 2:9-10
These two verses tell us what we need to know about Jesus and what we need to know about ourselves.
The Fullness of the Godhead
I’m often asked by non-believers why there are so many different denominations. What I say is that they take on different flavors but, in order to be called a “Christian Church” they must adhere to the “deal-breaker theology.”
Part of the “deal-breaker theology,” as I call it, is that you must believe that Jesus is God. He was a man, yet he was God. Otherwise, if you follow the logic, He would not have been qualified to die on the cross in our stead to take on our sin. If He couldn’t take away our sin, the death on the cross and the following resurrection would have been meaningless. Logically, this is a non-negotiable part of the gospel.
You are complete in Him
What a thought. So much of the world’s message tells us that we are incomplete.
If we had a husband, then we would be complete.
If we had children, then we’d be complete.
If we had this dress, those shoes, that face, those eyes…
You get the point.
This is simply not the Truth. We are made complete in Him. Our sufficiency is from Him.
Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God… 2 Corinthians 3:5
And since Jesus is the head of all principality and power, He has the authority to state that we are complete in Him. What a thought!
We’re not incomplete. We’re the opposite. Alone we may be incomplete, but as a Christian we are in Christ. In Him we are complete.
I wonder how this knowledge would change our decision-making process.
