Even the youths shall faint and be weary,

And the young men shall utterly fall,

But those who wait on the Lord

Shall renew their strength;

They shall mount up with wings like eagles,

They shall run and not be weary,

They shall walk and not faint.

Isaiah 40:30-31

Are you waiting for a miracle and growing weary in the meantime? Have you given up hope that God even hears your prayers or cares to answer them? Let’s face it waiting on the lord is hard work.

As a child and then an adult, I desperately shouted out to God to heal my step-father. Here was a man who had it all, a lucrative profession, a family who loved him, and status in the community. He was fun, loving, treated me like his own, had a heart of gold and was full of life before his addictions took over.

A Glimpse into Who He Was

My stepfather, John, was a man willing to break the rules when he saw someone else in pain. I remember one time in particular. As I was tossing and turning in my bed, sick as can be, I heard his footsteps coming my way.

I’m not sure if he passed my mom in the hallway or not, but she must have shuddered at the sight of what he had with him.

With a loud knock at the door, full of eagerness my step-father bounced through the door. To my surprise, John was carrying a canary yellow television just for me. I couldn’t believe my eyes nor conceive the fact John was breaking a definite boundary. We had a stringent rule “NO TV” in any child’s bedroom.  My mom would have never agreed to a television and especially one that clashed with my impeccably decorated room.

Yet, this wonderful man, full of unconditional love was plagued by addiction. Slowly but surely we watched a beautiful soul deteriorate before our eyes.  As a family, we took a journey we never expected nor would have chosen. It was riddled with pain, disappointment, expectations not met, and full of unwanted challenges.

We Prayed for a Miracle

As we watched and fervently prayed, God didn’t seem to answer our prayers. My step-father’s addiction eventually won out, followed by divorce, separation, and death.

Have you ever been there? You send desperate pleas to God, and yet you’re met with more and more heartache? Do you wonder, does the Lord not care enough about me? Am I not good enough for a miracle?

Maybe you have given up altogether, thinking God will never answer.

Friend, let me tell you God works in mysterious ways. We all grow weary from time to time, but God does not. He is continually working on our behalf. We must keep waiting on the Lord.

He has a plan, but often it doesn’t always line up with our desires, hopes, and dreams. Quite honestly, God’s plan many times doesn’t make sense to the human brain.

But what if we looked at our yearning for the BIG MIRACLE in a different light?

First – we must ask a few vital questions.

Do we even want God’s plan for our lives? Honestly, sometimes this is where we wrestle with God. Afterall, we are human, and we want what we want. I do don’t you?

Will we trust and believe his intent is good and right?  If so we must let go of our desires, hopes, and dreams to embrace what God wants.

Second – We need to recognize our limited perspective.

Remember we do not have God’s perspective. We can’t see the span of our lives as God can. We are limited in our view.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.   Jeremiah 29:11

Last but not least;

We must start looking for the little miracles happening all around us in our daily life.  It is true, you may not get your big miracle answered this side of heaven, but God is working, and he will never leave you or forsake you. Hold tightly to this promise.

Start learning how to count the small miracles on a daily basis.

Take a blank piece of paper and write.

I will remember when God ……………..

List out what God has done in your life. It might surprise you how many little miracles add up to big ones.

Counting the small miracles

As I sat at my step-father’s funeral, I looked around the room and started counting the little miracles that added up to mighty big ones. As each of my siblings stepped up to speak, I saw God in each of them. They are faithful strong, loving, kind, fun, and accomplished in their professions. Plus, our father had played a significant role in introducing each of us to Jesus by leading us every single week to church.

But little did I know all along this path God had been preparing me for something yet to come. I was learning how to wait for God to move, how to look around and see what was right in the midst of hardship and most important where to look for strength. In my waiting, God drew me into an intimate relationship that later in life became my lifeline.

Like many of you, I have been waiting for another miracle for the last twelve years. When I grow weary –  because I do –  I ask myself do I want God’s plan or Maree Dee’s? Then I remind myself God has a much bigger perspective. Next, I begin to remember all God has done not only in my life but the lives of others.

Don’t give up on your BIG miracle, believe God is working, start counting the little ones, and wait on the Lord.

Are you tired of waiting for your miracle? Have you given up? I would be honored to partner with you in prayer for the miracle you are seeking.  Leave me a message in the comments, and you can count on my prayers.
