Jesus is The Way
John 14:4
“And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.”
During the closing days of Jesus’ life before the cross, He often used an opportunity to enlighten His disciples on things to come. He revealed many precious truths that would prove beneficial after His ascension. On one such occasion, Jesus spoke of His departure. I am sure the disciples were perplexed and discouraged at the thought that their friend and Master whom they had grown to love, respect, and depend on so heavily, would soon leave them. It was an awful thought. What would they do without Him?
Jesus spoke to them directly about the way to heaven so they would one day be reunited. “And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:4-6. It all seemed like a parable to the disciples. What is Jesus talking about? The way? What is the way to the place that they cannot go now? In a short sentence, Jesus gave a concentrated explanation of the gospel message. He identified Himself as the way to heaven. He identified Himself as the path one must travel in order to find a relationship with the Father. “And Jacob went out from Beer-sheba, and went toward Haran. And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.” Genesis 28:10-12. “And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.” John 1:51. Throughout the scriptures, Jesus has identified Himself as the way to heaven. He is the way to salvation.
Do you know the way? Is Jesus your closest friend? “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” I John 5:11-13. Pray that the Lord will make Himself an irresistible part of your life today.
