For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
(Ephesians 2:10 NLT)

God’s creation proclaims His glory in many different ways, and we are the pinnacle of his creation! Let’s look into God’s Word to probe this truth.

“O Lord, what a variety of things you have made!
In wisdom you have made them all.
The earth is full of your creatures.
Here is the ocean, vast and wide,
teeming with life of every kind, both great and small.”
Psalm 104:24-25 NLT

The Glory and Power of God

Recently I watched a nature show on ocean creatures. A crazy-looking sea creature caught my eye. At first, I thought it was a trash bag floating on the ocean’s surface. But no, it was a highly specialized type of jellyfish, called a Portuguese man-o’-war, really a collection of organisms working together rather than a single creation.

This jellyfish has been known to kill people. It lives in warm waters around the world. Its tentacles can extend between 30 and 165 feet long. The part I thought was a trash bag acts as a sail to help the jellyfish navigate the seas.  I got these facts from a National Geographic article.

This jellyfish has marvelous colors. I watched in part awe, part disgust as the jellyfish caught a fish in its multicolored, curly tentacles and slowly pulverized it for food. You can view the same video I saw here.

Though this creature cannot walk or talk or move by itself, it most definitely proclaims the glory and power of its Maker.

You are God’s Masterpiece

Isn’t God’s handiwork amazing? His creative ability is unsurpassed, and it continually inspires awe, no matter the season or setting. What I want you to consider today is that out of all creation, whether in the seas or land or outer space, God chose YOU as His masterpiece!

You are more beautiful to God than the loveliest flower or sunset. You are dearer to him than the Grand Canyon or a South American waterfall. You are richer and more interesting to him than the rainforests and the snow-covered mountains. You are his masterpiece!

Different parts of God’s creation display His glory in different ways. You are special because you were created in God’s image. That means you bear a part of him in all your interactions with others.

Psalm 104 states that God made you with wisdom. You are not a mistake or an afterthought. You are not stupid, worthless, or useless, or any other words you may use to secretly condemn yourself. You are his treasure, his beloved, his child.

Rest in this knowledge today, friend. Let his love flow over you. Remember how God sees you is more important than how you see yourself. When condemning or critical thoughts threaten, choose to see yourself as God’s masterpiece.
