I know what you are thinking. Another New Year and talk on making resolutions. Yes, people express their thoughts on how to avoid breaking those self-made promises.
A point often overlooked is personal resolutions are self-centered. They rely on self-will. And this opens the door for failure. Because as humans we have limitations.
Self-reliance causes me problems. Every time I use my resources it doesn’t turn out as planned. Most of the time an unforeseen circumstance alters or prevents me from achieving the goal. Because of those stumbling blocks frustration sets in and I procrastinate or abandon the project.
So what’s the solution?
God!
Here’s the bottom line, when God brought me into the kingdom my priorities changed. It began with Christ. From that point forward I realized the most important action is picking up my cross and walking in Jesus’ footprints.
And once I dedicate myself to Christ, then God’s plan emerges:
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 NLT
Then I finally understood God’s eternal resolution—heaven.
Let me clarify this spiritual awakening.
God never fails to keep His promises and the biggest reality He delivers is sin’s resolution (Romans 5:12-21). This isn’t found anywhere else except in Christ. And for me to receive the full benefits from this gift I must stay willing to live for Jesus.
That’s when I realized this:
For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. 2 Corinthians 1:20 ESV
The best part is once I surrender to Christ then He makes me a new creation (2 Corinthians 5: 17). How awesome is that? God wants us new and gave Jesus the power to do so.
But what is a new creation?
And is it true?
The measuring stick for becoming a new creation in God’s eyes is discovering an increase in holy living. This derives from building a one-on-one relationship with Christ. Spending quality time with God is crucial and takes discipline. It’s easy to let other responsibilities take me away from prayer and meditation.
Here’s something we can both agree on is the Holy Spirit gives proof to our new and improved existence. God releases His Spirit inside our innermost self so we internalize Him. Nothing matches the soothing comfort He brings and this profound experience motivates me to keep devoting myself to Christ.
Given these points, God’s unwavering resolutions make living an enjoyable and uplifting experience. Remember, when life’s terms cause problems turn to Christ and find peace. I believe you can experience Christ’s impact because God wants to Father you.
