But the angel said to him, Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your petition was heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you must call his name John [God is favorable]. And it occurred that when Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with and controlled by the Holy Spirit. And she cried out with a loud cry, and then exclaimed, Blessed (favored of God) above all other women are you! And blessed (favored of God) is the Fruit of your womb! 

Luke 1: 13; 41-42

While still in his mother’s womb, the Bible says John “leapt” when Mary, Jesus’ mother, greeted his own mother. Named by an angel, connected to and filled with the Holy Spirit while yet unborn, it could have been too much for one man to bare. But John’s life was one of sacrifice, diligent service, and favor.

John’s life was defined by his interaction with Jesus. From the beginning until the end, he was essentially a modern day chaperone for Jesus. He anticipated and met the needs of Christ, announced his future arrival to the world, and ultimately was the one to “take Him to the water”.

Embracing your own calling to chaperone could be a person, profession or gift. What often turns us off about taking them on is the work and sacrifice associated with it.  The risk versus reward blinds us to responding obediently.

John knew the secret; allow the Holy Spirit to take over and the rest won’t matter. Age, economics, education, looks nor anything else matters. He will move in such a way that once we take the stage, the show must go on.

We won’t always understand or be able to predict what we’re assigned to do, but we can move in faith knowing full well it’s the perfect role.

Prayer – Mighty Jehovah, we ask today that you deliver your divine assignments to us or continue to direct those we have received. We open our lives up to serve as chaperones under your instruction right now. In Jesus name, Amen.
