Read I Samuel 17

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. John 1:9

We read about David and Goliath and often treat it as just a story. We forget God put these stories in the Bible for us to learn from the lives of the people of the Old Testament.

I often think if that was me, I sure wouldn’t want my life written about in a book for everyone to read. Some of the stories are hard to read as we learn how Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery. But then there are stories like the one about David. Just a small, young teenager, yet such a big faith. He had no fear as he believed that God would deliver him from death at the hand of Goliath.

Our fears are no different than the army of Israel. We may be facing something very scary or it may be that we are just scared of the dark. It doesn’t matter, fear is real.

Isn’t it wonderful to know that Jesus came into this world as the light that shines in the darkness? Because of Jesus, we can face any fear or problem we are facing.

Stop and pray right now. Ask God to shine light on your problem or fear. Thank him for being there for you and for working out all the details, even if you can’t see a solution yet. Then sit back in faith and wait to see how God’s light brings His will into your life.

Activity

As you string the lights on your tree or the front of your house, talk to God about the things that are bothering you. You may need to ask God to help you with a fear you are dealing with. Then as the lights come on, thank God for sending Jesus, the light of the world, to shine light on our problems, fears and sins, so we too can look forward to going to Heaven to live with God.
