Maybe it’s just me, but sometimes I don’t feel like praying. Isn’t that bad for me to say? Prayer is such a beautiful experience. To be humble before God and spend intimate time with Him is irreplaceable and completely necessary. Yet, I’m here admitting that sometimes I don’t feel like praying.

Sometimes There is too Much Stuff to Do

Sometimes there is just too much work to do, and I don’t feel as if I can do both. Lessons need planning. Dinner needs cooking. The house needs cleaning. Life is messy. I don’t feel like I have time to pray when so much needs to be done.

Then I’m reminded of someone else who had so much to do. She was busy. She was so busy preparing for Jesus that she didn’t have time to pause and be with Jesus. In the busyness of life, she neglected to slow down and spend time with her Savior. Dare I say we all have a little bit of Martha in us? We all get in a hurry. We all get too busy. We sometimes don’t feel like being still with God because we don’t think we have the time. But today God wants all of us to remember a few simple things:

When We Don’t Feel Like Praying

Prayer strengthens us (Luke 22:43-44). When we least feel like praying is when we most need it (1 Peter 5:7). When we don’t take time to pray, we become easy prey (1 Peter 5:8). Jesus prayed, therefore we certainly need to pray (Luke 6:12; Matthew 14:23). Prayer is communication with God (Matthew 6:6-13).

All in all, when I am humbled before God, I am recharged. He wants to be in communication with me, regardless of my circumstances. One of the best parts about prayer is that when I don’t feel like praying, but do, I can’t stop praying.

Prayer isn’t an obligation, it’s a privilege. Prayer isn’t about whether I feel like it. In turn, prayer gives the power I was needing, the answer I was waiting on, and the guidance I was hoping for.

God, I pray that we never allow the busyness of life to affect our relationship with You. May we never allow the gift of life, to get in the way of the relationship with the Giver. Thank You for being patient with us when we do and getting us on the right track when we stray. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. How do you become distracted in life?
  2. Do you ever feel there are so many distractions that it’s hard to focus on a relationship with God?
  3. Do you feel like the blessings of life seem more like curses when it comes to time management?
  4. How can you manage time better?
  5. Do you think the distractions of life keep you from a deeper prayer life?
  6. Have you prayed when you didn’t feel like it and felt a breakthrough?
  7. Do you think God has a deeper prayer life ready for you with proper management of time, with Him as #1?
