Jesus and His friends, the disciples, were in a ship on their way to the country of the Gergesenes, when suddenly a great storm arose. The storm was so intense that the disciples thought the ship would sink, and they would die. Meanwhile, Jesus slept. How is it that Jesus could sleep in such a dire situation? How could He just let His friends die? Do something Jesus! His friends’ faith was on the ragged edge. They could not see through the storm to a Savior who would empty heaven of all of its angels to save one sinner in trouble. Rather, they perceived a Savior unconcerned with them, and sleeping.

Are you riding the waves of life that seem fierce enough to sink your spiritual ship? Are you fearful and overwhelmed? Welcome Jesus into your experience. He is not unaware of your dire emergency. He still attends to the needs of His people. Cry out to Him and He will rise above your calamity, raise His almighty hand, and command the tempests all around you to be still. Your immediate circumstance may remain the same, but He will not allow you to drown. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.” Isaiah 26:3,4.

Jesus, hearing the desperate cries of His friends arose, and calmed the winds and the sea with a single, deliberate command. The disciples marveled. What kind of man can command even the elements and they obey Him? Jesus is no ordinary man; He is the almighty Savior of the world. Jesus is still hearing the cries of his people today. Keep a prayer on your lips all day every day, and remember that Jesus’ apparent slumber is a call to persistent prayer and meditation. He always answers right on time.
