“How do you know your religion is the right one?” Asked a young man. “Well, there are only two ways to be a child of God,” I answered. “Either by election, such as the people of Israel or by adoption, that happens by being born again through faith in Jesus.” I continued. The young man simply walked away, lost in thoughts. He understood that it was about more than a religion.
We live in a day and age when pluralism—or coexistence of faith systems—is everywhere. On the one hand, it is positive, because it means that people believe there is more and it is easier to talk to them about spiritual matters. On the other hand, it can be confusing for the seeker, and an excuse for many not to choose whom they will follow.
Make no mistake about it, the absence of a choice is a choice!
Who is God?
I’ve heard it said that we all believe in the same God. That is a lie. We all have an intuition for God, and we can all feel His tugging at our hearts. But that is it. Throughout history, humankind has tried to contain the Lord in many religious boxes. You can’t contain the Creator of the universe!
He is wild like a lion. A mighty rushing wind. His love crashes on us like the powerful waves of a tsunami, yet it is tender and nurturing, covering us like the warm wing of a mama bird. No, God can’t be put in a box. Our God is greater than any picture our wildest imagination can think of.
Without Jesus, there is no salvation. Without Jesus there is no God, for Jesus is God. God came down on earth in bodily form, suffered all kinds of trials and was murdered for our sins. He then defeated death, came back to life, and took His place in heaven. Yes, God is three persons, but only one God. He is the fire burning in our hearts, the song that comforts our souls, the essence of our very being. Our salvation. He is the One and only God.
Who is He to you?
Heavenly Father, help me to know You better. Reveal Yourself to me. You are irresistible, Lord. I am Yours. Open my mouth that I may speak of Your goodness, and direct my path that I may be a Kingdom builder. May people come to You without confusion or hesitation. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
