As a worship leader in my church, selecting the music for many Sunday morning services is one of my responsibilities. One song in our congregation’s rotation is “I Choose To Worship,” and the title itself serves as an important reminder that worshiping IS a decision. While worship is something we are called to do every single day through the way we live our lives, we all know that sometimes the time that is specifically set aside for it during church services on Sunday mornings can be a time of distraction and discouragement because of stress and struggles in our lives.

Sunday morning worship time is an intentional act of focusing our minds on who God really is. It is a perfect time to reflect on the qualities of God, who is beyond compare.

His supernatural characteristics could make him seem untouchable, but He says we can boldly approach His throne! Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

The Bible says His faithfulness reaches the skies, His love is as high as the heavens, and that He removes our transgressions from us as far as the east is from the west. While His attributes are beyond measure by human standards, He desires to have a close, personal relationship with each and every one of us. God might be beyond our comprehension, but He is never beyond our reach. That truth alone makes it worth choosing to worship Him!

When we enter church on Sunday mornings after a difficult week and struggle to “feel worshipful,” let’s choose to remind ourselves of how incredible it is to be loved by the One who actually originated love. The Creator of the Universe, the One who made it possible for us to live eternally with Him in heaven, the One who can calm the seas with His voice and heal the afflicted with His touch, desires to be right smack dab in the center of our lives. Focusing on these facts can supersede any stress in our lives and helps to prepare our hearts for true worship.

May we show God the awe, attention, and adoration that He is worthy of regardless of our circumstances. May we always CHOOSE to worship Him.
