You Are The Light of the World
It seems during the holidays, the pain in those surrounding us is pervasive. Everywhere I turn, I find loss. Heavy loads and gaping holes and puffy eyes. The burden of losing a loved one becomes oppressive when it should be a time of joy and gathering. Grief can be an agonizing companion.
While we all inevitably go through loss and pain, God can use this time to bless us. It is in these moments, these darkest of times, where God can use His people to demonstrate His love, His hope. When we see our brothers and sisters fall in the shadows, when the waves grow larger or the walls around them are crumbling, we are called to lift each other.
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as you are doing.” ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:11
God wants us to reflect His light. When others are knocked down into the depths, He wants to use us to share His warmth and light in those darkened corners.
“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.” ~Matthew 5:14
Be a Light To Others
Even with the darkness of grief in many of my dear family and friends, there is still sunshine today. It may be freezing outside, but the sun still burns bright. His hope burns within. My windows may be dirty, smudged with fingerprints, but the sunlight still pours through the glass. Despite the frigid air, the sun is still warm on my face, and even though it could be more clear, I still see there is a beautiful view outside my window. It’s funny how much better I feel when there is sunshine, when I stand in the light, when there is hope.
God wants us to reflect His light. When others are stuck in the shadows, He wants to use us to share His warmth and light in those darkened corners.
Who can you offer His light to today? How can you bless someone who needs to see God’s love in action?
When we pour ourselves into others, it doesn’t have to empty us. The Holy Spirit provides and fills us so that we can overflow into the lives of others. The hope of Jesus does not run out. Ask God to show you how to share His light with someone today.
