Have you ever felt forgotten or unseen? Have you ever doubted your worth and significance? Take heart, my friend, for there is a promise that will lift your spirit and give you hope. The Lord has written your name on His hand, and He will never forget you.

Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me. Isaiah 49:16 ESV

What does it mean for God to write our names on His hand?

It is a powerful metaphor that speaks of God’s deep love and affection for us. Just as we might write a note on our hand to keep it close and remind us of something important, God has inscribed our names on His hand to keep us close to His heart and mind.

But the Lord’s writing is not with a mere pen or marker. He has written our names with the blood of Christ shed on the cross. This means that His love for us is not just a feeling or sentiment, but a sacrificial and eternal commitment. He has purchased us with His blood and made us His own.

His name is written in a substance that never fades or washes away. Ink can be removed, fade, wash away, or even be altered. But His name can never be altered or washed from God’s hand.

So what does it mean to have our names written on God’s hand?

It means that we are always on His mind and heart. We are never out of His sight or reach. He is always watching over us, protecting us, and providing for us. He knows our needs, our struggles, and our fears, and He is always available to minister to us with His love and grace.

Moreover, having our names written on God’s hand means that we have a special place in His plan and purpose. We are not accidents or mistakes, but intentional creations designed for His glory and honor. He has a specific calling and destiny for each of us, and He will guide us and empower us to fulfill it.

So how can we live in the reality of God’s promise written on His hand?

Here are some practical steps:

  1. Believe and receive. First and foremost, we must believe in God’s love for us and receive it by faith. We cannot earn or deserve it, but we can trust in His grace and mercy.
  2. Remind yourself daily. Just as we might write a note or set a reminder on our phone, we can remind ourselves of God’s promise written on His hand. We can speak it out loud, write it down, or meditate on it in prayer.
  3. Trust and obey. As we live in the awareness of God’s love and presence, we can trust Him with every aspect of our lives and obey His leading. We can follow His commands, seek His will, and walk in His ways.
  4. Share with others. Finally, we can share the good news of God’s promise with others. We can encourage and uplift those who feel forgotten or unseen, and we can invite them to experience the love of God for themselves.

Let us rejoice in the promise written on God’s hand.

Let us live in the reality of His unfailing love and grace, and let us share it with others.

We are never alone, never forgotten, and never without hope. We are His beloved, and He will never let us go.
