Change.

It happens to every last one of us, and - if we're honest with ourselves - it isn't always welcomed. All too often, we identify change with something negative, such as an illness, divorce, job loss or death. These things take us away from our comfortable lives and into a world full of chaos and despair.

But change can also be a positive step. A job promotion, a marriage, buying a new house and welcoming a baby are all forms of change we tend to embrace. Although they are far from perfect or easy, we welcome them with open arms because of the joys and hopes they bring to our lives.

This time of year, as the summer sun starts to slowly ease its hold on our thermometers and the green trees begin to fade into a kaleidoscope of oranges, yellows and browns, we appreciate the cycle of seasons. The autumn leaves fall to the ground, soon followed by a blanket of white magic that brings about the angelic songs of children's laughter. This, in turn, gives way to a symphony of life on the bare branches as we witness the newness of spring.

In many ways, our lives echo the changing nature of the four seasons. Sometimes, as we relax beside the pool of our comfort, a chilly breeze blows over us and we are left facing long, cold nights ahead. And while we know that one day the lilies and irises will bloom once more, we must face the oncoming winter to reach the life on the other side.

Thankfully, we have an ally who goes with us, someone who never changes despite the seasons of our lives.

[Hebrews 13:8 ESV] 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Jesus is our rock and our anchor in any storm we face. Through all of our ups and downs, every celebration and heartache, every victory and every defeat, He has remained the only true constant. He has proven Himself reliable, steady, unchanging and a constant friend.

He is not afraid of your giants, He prays to the Father for you in the hospital room, He weeps with you at the graveside. He cares deeply about you and is always with you to listen to your hopes and fears. He knows you deeply and loves you deeply, and that will never change.

Question to Consider

What changes in my life right now - no matter how small - can I lay at Jesus' feet as I sit in His presence?

Prayer for Today

Jesus, You are so amazing to me. You know every storm, every setback, every trial, and yet You go before me to prepare the way through. This is why I trust my life to You, because You are good and You care deeply for me and for who I am in You. Help me to hold Your almighty and gentle hand as we walk through this life together. Amen.
