I love to write.

I like fiction, with all of the character sketches, world-building, conflict and plot twists. It's a great way to create an alternate reality without ever leaving my own, and I can share it with others who might enjoy it with me.

I also like non-fiction, explaining truths to people and helping them understand a little bit more about life, Jesus and anything else.

For me, though, writing is more than an enjoyable hobby or passion. It's my purpose.

I once had a friend tell me, "Your purpose in life is this: I feel closest to God when I ___."

The first thing that comes to your mind when you fill in that blank is very important. It's a very big hint at what God has placed in your heart to do for His glory and His kingdom.

For me, it's writing. For others, it may be serving their family from home, or greeting customers as they walk through a check-out line, or replacing the alternator in a car.

Whatever it is, God has given that to you for a reason.

[Jeremiah 1:5 ESV] 5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations."

For Jeremiah, God gave him a "fire in his bones" (Jeremiah 20:9). In today's verse, we see God appointing the prophet when he was "a youth", likely in his late teens or early twenties. He had no experience and no training, but the LORD sent him to the kingdom of Judah for a specific purpose to proclaim God's words.

Take time today to consider where your passions lie and how you can use those things to glorify God.

Question to Consider

What is it that helps you connect with God, the fire that you feel in your bones?

Prayer for Today

Lord Jesus, help me to know what it is that You want me to do. Show me the things that You placed in my heart to use for Your glory, the things that bring us closer as they also lift up others. Give me the wisdom and courage to use these desires for Your kingdom. Amen.
